CLIVE ANDREWS FROM PONTLLANFRAITH SENTENCED FOR DECADES-OLD CHILD ABUSE CASES IN CARDIFF

In a case that has spanned decades, Clive Andrews, a 59-year-old man from Brynteg Avenue in Pontllanfraith, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of multiple historic sexual offenses. The crimes, which took place during the 1970s and 1980s, involved the sexual abuse of two young girls and a boy, with Andrews repeatedly assaulting his victims over a prolonged period.

Following a detailed trial at Cardiff Crown Court, Andrews was found guilty of 25 counts related to indecent assault and gross indecency. Despite his denial of the allegations, the evidence presented in court was compelling enough to secure a conviction. The prosecution, led by Christopher Rees, presented statements from the victims, many of whom described the lasting trauma inflicted upon them.

One victim recounted the emotional toll of giving evidence, stating, “Giving evidence in court was a traumatic experience. It nearly killed me.” Another victim expressed feelings of exploitation, saying, “I felt used as a sexual object.” These testimonies highlighted the profound and enduring impact of Andrews’ actions.

The court heard that Andrews began abusing his victims when he was just 14 years old, continuing his misconduct into his early twenties. The judge, Richard Williams, addressed Andrews directly during sentencing, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and their long-term effects on the victims. The judge remarked, “What you did to your victims was serious and it had consequences for them throughout their lives. One victim described having to give evidence in court as brutal. They showed a lot of courage. You abused them over and over again.”

As a result of his conviction, Andrews was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
