CLINTON MCARTHUR FROM NORTH AYRSHIRE FOUND GUILTY OF ASSAULT IN GLASGOW COURT

A woman has courageously come forward to share her harrowing experience of emotional and physical abuse inflicted by Clinton McArthur, a man she describes as manipulative, isolating, and terrifying. The incident, which took place in November of the previous year, culminated in McArthur, aged 28 and hailing from Dalry, being convicted at Glasgow Sheriff Court for a violent assault.

According to court reports, McArthur forcibly detained the woman inside a property located on Turnyhill Road in East Dunbartonshire. During this assault, he physically attacked her and attempted to seize her phone, actions that appeared aimed at maintaining control over her. The survivor, who has chosen to remain anonymous for her safety, revealed that the abuse was not immediately apparent and gradually intensified over time.

She explained, “He was controlling. I never realised what he was doing to me. He didn’t allow me to see my friends. I am having to overcome all this by myself.” Her words highlight how subtle manipulation can evolve into more overt forms of violence and coercion.

The situation escalated beyond emotional control, with McArthur reportedly showing up at her workplace on multiple occasions, refusing to leave her alone. His persistence eventually crossed the line into physical violence, as he approached her at her place of employment and continued to push boundaries until the situation turned violent.

The court proceedings detailed that McArthur forcibly removed the woman from a car, pushed her into a property, and caused her to hit a wall, resulting in injuries and a deep sense of fear. Her trauma was compounded by the uncertainty of what might happen next, leaving her feeling vulnerable and terrified.

Expressing her fear, she stated, “I’m petrified. I don’t want to see this man again. He likes to manipulate women.” Her testimony sheds light on the disturbing reality faced by many women who endure abuse behind closed doors. It often begins with subtle control—such as limiting contact with friends and family or sowing doubt—before escalating into physical violence.

This case underscores the importance of speaking out against abuse. The survivor’s decision to share her story serves as a powerful reminder that no one should suffer in silence. It emphasizes that abuse, in any form, is unacceptable and that support is available for those who need it. Her bravery not only seeks justice but also aims to inspire others to break free from the cycle of violence and manipulation.
