A woman named Claire Button, aged 35, residing on Windstar Drive in South Ockendon, has confessed to the unlawful killing of her five-year-old son, Lincoln Button. However, she maintains that she did not commit murder.Lincoln tragically lost his life in December of the previous year, an incident that drew immediate attention from emergency services after concerns about his well-being were raised by those close to him. The circumstances surrounding his death prompted a swift response from police and paramedics, who arrived at the family home in South Ockendon on December 15.
Upon arrival, emergency responders worked tirelessly in an attempt to save Lincoln’s life. Despite their efforts, the young boy succumbed to his injuries. Following the incident, Claire Button was briefly hospitalized, likely for medical or mental health assessment, before being taken into police custody for questioning.
She was subsequently charged with murder and appeared before Basildon Crown Court on April 9. During her court appearance, she confirmed her identity, entered a plea, and expressed her gratitude to the presiding judge. In her plea, she admitted to the lesser charge of manslaughter but firmly denied that she had intentionally murdered her son. The trial to determine her guilt or innocence on the murder charge is scheduled to commence on September 29.
Lincoln’s family has publicly paid a heartfelt tribute to him, describing him as a cherished, loved, and beautiful boy who was full of life. They expressed their deep sorrow, emphasizing how much he was adored by everyone around him and how his absence will be felt daily.
Lincoln was a pupil in Year One at Bonnygate Primary School, where he was remembered as a cheerful, cheeky, and happy child. The school community fondly recalled his love for school, his infectious laughter, and his fondness for cuddles, highlighting the impact he had on those around him.
As the legal process continues, the case remains ongoing within the judicial system, with the final outcome awaiting the scheduled trial in September.
