DUNDEE MAN JAILED AFTER 17-YEAR CAMPAIGN OF DOMESTIC ABUSE

A perpetrator of repeated abuse who attacked and stalked three women over a span of 17 years has received a prison sentence.

Christopher Webster engaged in harmful "behavior patterns" towards his former partners from 2001 up until January 2018, which included causing one woman to experience a panic attack and another to feel as if she was going to die when he was choking her.

The 40-year-old pleaded guilty to hitting one woman with a metal pole during May to August 2001 on Gowrie Street, then kicking her leg and yelling at her in March 2004.

He also followed her during a trip from Dundee to Stirling and parked outside her residence between September 2004 and May 2005.

His ex-wife was also targeted, with Webster repeatedly assaulting her at addresses in Lawson Place and Lauderdale Avenue from 2010 to 2016.

The court was informed that Webster, residing on Americanmuir Road, became pulled into a love triangle involving his wife and another victim, at one point living in two different homes simultaneously.

During this period, he kicked his girlfriend, grabbed her by the neck, pinned her down, choked her, and twisted her arm at a property on Peddie Street in July 2017; he later bit her on her face and body in November of the same year.

Between January 2016 and January 2018, Webster stalked her across multiple addresses in Dundee, entered her home without permission, blocked her vehicle with his, got into her car uninvited, forced her to drive him through various streets, and visited her workplace and a residence on Peddie Street, all while making threats to kill her.

Defence lawyer George Donnelly noted that many incidents happened while Webster was intoxicated at parties, stating, “He was still with his wife when he met the other woman.

They started a relationship while he was still married.

He was living between two homes, which caused conflict.

He was torn because both households wanted him to stay full-time.” It was also revealed that Webster admitted his guilt and was now living with his parents.

The sheriff, Alastair Carmichael, sentenced him to 41 months in prison and issued a seven-year non-harassment order protecting two of the women.

Sheriff Carmichael remarked, “These are serious charges and demonstrate a pattern of conduct involving three victims.

In particular, a serious offence against one victim involved choking her for ten seconds, during which she believed she was going to die.

In another case, the victim was pinned down and choked, causing her to have a panic attack.

These two charges alone necessitate a custodial sentence.”
