CHRISTOPHER THOMPSON FROM DARLINGTON SENTENCED TO 27 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENSES IN TEESSIDE
In a case that has shocked the local community and highlighted the ongoing battle against child exploitation, Christopher Thompson, a 26-year-old man from Darlington, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 27 years and eight months at Teeside Crown Court.The sentencing follows a series of disturbing criminal activities involving the sexual abuse and exploitation of minors, both online and in person.
Thompson had previously pleaded guilty to multiple child sexual exploitation offences during an earlier hearing, which paved the way for the court to impose a severe sentence reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
The investigation into Thompson’s activities was initiated after a referral from the National Crime Agency’s CEOP Command on July 9, 2013.
The referral was triggered by concerns raised over sexually explicit online communications between Thompson and a 12-year-old boy on the social networking platform Tagged.
During these online exchanges, Thompson engaged in conversations that included the exchange of indecent images, raising alarm among the platform’s employees.
Recognizing the potential danger, an employee of the social networking site contacted authorities in the United States, where the platform was based, to report the suspicious activity.
This international cooperation led to the tracing of the victim to the Leigh area, and subsequently, Thompson’s identification as the suspect.
Thompson was arrested in County Durham on July 17, 2014, on suspicion of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.
Following his arrest, he was released on strict bail conditions while police continued their investigation.
A subsequent search of Thompson’s residence on North Road in Darlington uncovered a number of electronic devices, including a laptop, a hard drive, and a memory stick.
Forensic analysis of these items revealed thousands of indecent images of children, further implicating him in the abuse.
Further disturbing developments emerged on May 19, 2015, when Thompson was re-arrested in Durham after an incident involving an 11-year-old boy.
According to reports, Thompson met the boy in a park, then accompanied him to a garage where sexual acts were committed.
Durham Constabulary launched an extensive investigation into these allegations, and during the arrest, a mobile phone belonging to Thompson was seized.
The device was found to contain additional indecent images of children, adding to the evidence against him.
In addition to the charges arising from his activities in Durham, Thompson was also investigated by South Wales Police.
It was revealed that he had incited a man from Cardiff to commit a heinous crime — raping a four-year-old boy.
The man carried out the act and subsequently sent a video of the assault to Thompson, who viewed it.
These additional offences underscored the extent of Thompson’s depravity and his involvement in child exploitation across different regions.
Thompson’s case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by online predators and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts.
His lengthy imprisonment aims to protect society from further harm and to serve justice for the victims affected by his actions.
