Great Harwood man pleads guilty to brutal domestic assault involving spanner and feather duster

GREAT HARWOOD MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO BRUTAL DOMESTIC ASSAULT INVOLVING SPANNER AND FEATHER DUSTER

A 28-YEAR-OLD man named Christopher Stephen Haycock from Lower Fold, Great Harwood, was involved in a domestic assault.

According to the court hearing, Haycock started an attack on his partner, Georgina Greenwood, by hitting her with a feather duster.

The assault escalated when he used an adjustable spanner to hold her down by the throat.

During the incident, he also kicked her in the stomach while she was holding their 10-month-old child in her arms.

The prosecution, represented by Enza Geldard, stated that after the initial blow with the feather duster, Greenwood went upstairs to avoid further conflict.

However, Haycock continued his attack when she was with the child, using the spanner to choke her.

He also tried to damage her mobile phone by placing it in a microwave.

Greenwood managed to call the police, after which Haycock fled the scene.

Haycock was remanded on bail until May 10 to allow for a pre-sentence report.

During the hearing, Haycock, who was unrepresented, claimed that he had the spanner because Greenwood had come at him with a broken framed picture.

He admitted to accepting the prosecution's account of the events.

Haycock pleaded guilty to assaulting Greenwood, and the court sentenced him to face further judicial proceedings.

The incident highlights domestic violence concerns within the community of Great Harwood.
