LEEDS DOMESTIC ABUSER SENTENCED AGAIN FOR VIOLENCE
A persistent domestic abuser who previously served time for assaulting a former partner has been sentenced again for domestic violence crimes.Christopher Mozley, aged 36, of Westbourne Avenue, Leeds, was convicted of assault by beating, intentional strangulation, and two counts of criminal damage after a recent incident involving a different woman.
The court heard that on July 13, Mozley and the woman were at her residence, where an argument escalated.
During the altercation, Mozley shouted insults, smashed the woman's phone, and threw a toy kitchen at her.
He then punched her multiple times in the head, grabbed her by the arms, and put his hands around her neck, causing her to nearly stop breathing.
The woman described him as looking "very evil" and was so terrified she was shaking.
The assault lasted approximately 30 minutes.
While on bail and prohibited from contacting her, Mozley returned to her house on July 16, banging on her window and door before forcing his way inside.
The woman called the police, but Mozley took her phone and keys.
He later returned on August 20, again banging and smashing a window, and was arrested by police.
During police interviews, Mozley denied causing damage and refused to comment on certain questions.
The court was told he has a history of violent behaviour, including an incident where he threw hot water on a previous partner.
His lawyer acknowledged that a custodial sentence was inevitable and stated Mozley needed to address his behavioural issues.
Judge Mansell KC sentenced Mozley to 15 months in prison, noting his previous convictions for violence, including an incident in a domestic context, and his longstanding issues with trust and anger stemming from childhood experiences.
The judge emphasized the importance of reflection and rehabilitation, and highlighted that Mozley's release would be on parole after serving half of the sentence.
The court also noted that there was no prospect of reconciliation with the complainant and that Mozley had a job lined up after his release as a forklift truck driver in Leeds.
