CHRYSTON MAN CHRISTOPHER LOPPAS FACES JAIL OVER CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN SCOTLAND
In a serious case that has shocked the community of Chryston, 51-year-old Christopher Loppas is now facing the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence after being found in possession of a large collection of child abuse images. The incident came to light in June 2016, when authorities uncovered disturbing evidence linking Loppas to the possession and distribution of indecent photographs of children.According to court reports, Loppas, a father-of-one, pleaded guilty at Airdrie Sheriff Court to charges related to taking, permitting to be taken, or making indecent images of children at his residence over a period of approximately 12 months, starting in September 2014. The court was informed that the images involved some of the most severe categories of child exploitation, with victims as young as four years old.
Prosecutor Agnes Meek detailed the investigation, revealing that police received intelligence from the National Child Abuse Computer Unit. Acting on this information, officers visited Loppas’ home on September 3, 2015. During the search, they seized a computer and a tower unit, which were later examined for evidence. Loppas was taken into custody and questioned, during which he fully admitted to downloading the illicit images.
The authorities discovered a total of 481 images stored on his devices. Many of these images depicted young girls, primarily between the ages of four and six, being sexually abused by adult males. The severity of the material was underscored by the fact that some images fell into the most serious category of child exploitation.
Throughout the proceedings, Loppas sat with his head bowed in the dock as the facts were read out by the fiscal depute. The court heard that he resides on Pleaknowe Crescent in Chryston. Sheriff Morag Galbraith decided to defer sentencing until the following month, citing the need for comprehensive background reports, including a risk assessment to evaluate the potential danger Loppas poses to children. In the meantime, he was placed on the sex offenders’ register and released on bail, pending further judicial review.
