CHRISTOPHER JANSONS FROM CANNINGTON SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE IN SOMERSET

A 63-year-old man named Christopher Jansons, who resides in Cannington, Somerset, has been found guilty of serious domestic abuse charges. The incident that led to his conviction involved a violent and threatening confrontation with his wife, which took place on the evening of 26 May.

According to court proceedings, Jansons detained his wife within their home, holding her against her will and issuing threats to kill her over an alleged affair. During this distressing episode, the woman managed to secretly contact emergency services by calling 999. Despite being restrained and under threat, she kept the line open for approximately 20 minutes, providing critical information to the authorities.

Police responded promptly to the distress call, executing a swift entry into the residence and arresting Jansons at the scene. During police interviews, Jansons admitted to charges of false imprisonment and threats to kill, which resulted in his sentencing to two years and eight months in prison at Taunton Crown Court.

The court was also informed that on the same evening, Jansons had secretly recorded his wife discussing their relationship with a friend. Furthermore, he had confiscated her phone and prevented her from leaving the bedroom, effectively trapping her. The victim was able to use a hidden phone to call the police and provided her address, which enabled officers to intervene just in time to prevent further harm.

Detective Constable Mark Humphrey commented on the case, stating that Jansons could not accept the end of their marriage and that his anger was directed at his wife. The officer emphasized that the wife was terrified during the incident. The police reiterated their stance that domestic abuse is unacceptable under any circumstances and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting victims from harm and bringing perpetrators to justice.
