CHRISTOPHER BALL FROM ASHFORD JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND ONLINE SEXUAL OFFENSES
In a significant case highlighting the dangers of online child exploitation, Christopher Ball, a 50-year-old resident of Ashford, was sentenced to prison after a detailed investigation uncovered his involvement in distributing and possessing indecent images of children.The arrest took place in January of 2021 at his residence on Kilndown Close, Ashford, following a tip-off that led police to scrutinize his online activities.
Authorities from Kent Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team launched a thorough probe into Ball’s digital footprint after discovering that he had posted an indecent image on Facebook.
This initial lead prompted a comprehensive search of his computers, revealing a disturbing collection of over 1,200 Category A images—considered the most severe and explicit type of child abuse material.
The evidence was overwhelming and indicated a pattern of ongoing criminal behavior.
Further investigation uncovered that Ball had not only stored these images but also actively sought to contact children via the internet.
Police found more than 20 chat logs dating from November 2019 to January 2020, in which Ball attempted to communicate with minors across various countries.
These exchanges included attempts to incite children to perform sexual acts and involved the sending of explicit video clips, demonstrating a clear intent to exploit and abuse vulnerable minors.
In addition to the digital evidence, authorities discovered that Ball had established and managed online chat rooms.
These virtual spaces served as platforms for sharing indecent images and videos, with more than 400 such files exchanged among users.
The scale of his online activities underscored the seriousness of his offending and his role in facilitating the distribution of child abuse material.
Ball faced multiple charges, totaling 44 counts, which encompassed possession, distribution, and creation of indecent images of children.
He was also charged with attempting to communicate sexually with a minor, encouraging a child to watch sexual acts, and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
These charges reflect the breadth of his criminal conduct and the threat he posed to children.
He admitted to all charges during a court appearance at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on May 26, 2021.
Subsequently, at Canterbury Crown Court, he was sentenced to eight years in prison, with an additional two years to be served on license upon release.
The court also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts him from using any device capable of accessing the internet without police approval.
The order further limits his contact with children and enforces other restrictions aimed at preventing further harm.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predators like Christopher Ball, whose actions have now been brought to justice.
