FRENCH BULLDOG SCALDED BY OWNER: ABUSER GETS 10-YEAR ANIMAL BAN AND SUSPENDED JAIL SENTENCE
Allen pleaded guilty to cruelty to the male French bulldog , who was covered in painful skin lesions consistent with scalding.Concerned for the dog’s welfare.
a neighbour of Allen’s took him to a vet and the RSPCA was alerted.
The dog, named Ragnor, had clumps of fur coming out of his left side with the skin underneath scabby.
He had additional areas of fur loss to his right side and right back leg.
The skin there was pink, which appeared to be healing scars.
The skin was pink, and he was thin and smelt of urine and faeces.
An expert vet who examined the evidence of the case said the skin lesions were caused by the mechanism of scalding produced by contact of the skin with a hot, non-viscous liquid.
They said in their report: “In my opinion Ragnor has been caused to suffer.
Suffering will have been experienced by this dog as a result of scalding via mechanisms of pain for a period of at least five days possibly longer.
“Further suffering will have been experienced via a mechanism of pruritus (itchy skin) for a period of at least five days subsequent to the period of pain.” Allen admitted causing unnecessary suffering to Ragnor by failing to provide proper and necessary veterinary care and attention for his lesions.
He denied all knowledge of how the dog came to be scalded, claiming that he suffers seizures and “blacks out”.
Speaking after the case inspector Jon Knight said: “Poor Ragnor would have suffered a great deal of pain as a result of these wounds and the lack of veterinary treatment.
“I am pleased that Ragnor made a full recovery and has now been rehomed to the person who initially rescued him and took him to the vet.”
