MENTALLY-ILL MOTHER DROWNS SON AND CLAIMS HE IS A WITCH
Christina Acres, 37, has admitted to killing her seven-year-old son George Acres by drowning him in a bath at their family home in Rochford last July. The court heard that she declared her son to be a witch after the incident and stated she wanted to kill herself.
Prosecutor Andrew Jackson highlighted that Acres had 'a history of mental illness,' describing the case as 'deeply tragic.' The court was told that she strangled George before drowning him on the morning of July 23, which coincided with the start of the school summer holidays.
In the days preceding the murder, Acres believed that people were trying to murder her and spoken of conspiracies involving the 'Illuminati.' After the killing, she referred to her son as a 'witch.' At the time, both Acres and her son were staying at her parents' house following her marriage breakdown in 2012.
Her father was at work in Lowestoft, Suffolk, and her mother was also due at work when the events unfolded.
She called her father multiple times, asking him to come home, and then her mother was alerted and contacted a psychiatric nurse.
The police found George's body after Acres told her father she had strangled him and wanted to kill herself.
The trial at Basildon Crown Court continues.
