WOKING MAN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON PARAMEDIC
Christian Callaghan, aged 35, was involved in an incident in Woking in June 2022, when paramedics arrived to assist him at a residence and found him unresponsive.
During the emergency response, he exhibited unpredictable movements and was restrained to carry out basic observations.
He then assaulted a paramedic who was attending to him, grabbing her and later sexually assaulting her.
Despite her protests and warnings, his behavior worsened to include verbal abuse.
Sgt.
Daryl Budd identified Callaghan using CCTV footage from the ambulance, which resulted in his arrest and charges of sexual assault.
He was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court to 42 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered to comply with a strict 60-day curfew from 9 pm to 7 am.
Additionally, he is subject to notification requirements due to his conviction.
The case received public support from Dave Monk, the security manager for SECAmb, who condemned abuse directed at emergency workers and highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure offenders are held accountable.
