CHRIS SHARP CHILD ABUSE IMAGES SCANDAL SHAKES GUERNSEY HOTEL INDUSTRY
In a startling development that has sent shockwaves through the hospitality community in Guernsey, Chris Sharp, a man previously known for his role in the local hotel industry, faces serious allegations related to child abuse images.The case, which emerged in January 2011, reveals that Sharp, a 44-year-old hotelier, was involved in the illegal downloading and possession of explicit material involving minors.
According to reports, the charges against Sharp stem from his possession of over 500 images and approximately 40 videos depicting child abuse.
These materials were found on his personal computer during a police investigation.
The authorities in Guernsey, with assistance from Interpol, initiated the investigation after receiving information from German police, highlighting the international cooperation involved in tackling such crimes.
It was also disclosed that until 2010, Sharp held a prominent position as the head of the Hospitality and Tourism sub-group within Guernsey’s Chamber of Commerce.

The court proceedings revealed that Sharp had engaged in online exchanges with other internet users, sharing the illicit images and videos.

Following the charges, La Fregate, the hotel where Sharp was employed, issued a statement confirming that he had resigned from his positions and no longer holds any financial interest in the establishment.
The hotel’s management expressed their dismay and emphasized that they were unaware of Sharp’s alleged activities until the charges became public.
Legal experts suggest that Sharp could potentially serve as little as 16 months in prison, a sentence that has sparked debate given the severity of the crimes.
Meanwhile, discussions continue about whether he will face disqualification from serving as a director or in other professional capacities, as authorities consider the appropriate sanctions for his actions.
