EX-ESSEX POLICE OFFICER CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT IN GREAT BARDFIELD

A former Essex Police officer has been charged with sexual assault.

Ex-Special Superintendent Chris Gliddon is alleged to have carried out the offence several years ago.

Essex Police have been investigating the sexual offence, which is alleged to have taken place between January 2019 and July 2021.

A man was arrested and questioned before being charged.

The incident is alleged to have taken place in the Braintree district whilst the officer was off duty at the time.

Gliddon, 28, of Bendlowes Road, Great Bardfield, has been charged with sexual assault.

The Crown Prosecution Service authorised the charges this week following a review of the evidence submitted by Essex Police.

Gliddon is no longer serving with the police force.

He is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today (March 3).
