NIGHTCLUB PROMOTER JAILED FOR DATE RAPE
A nightclub promoter convicted of a sexual assault has received a six-year prison sentence.Chinedu Nwobu, known as Chin, was convicted of raping a 24-year-old woman in Tooting on 31 August of the previous year, following a trial lasting a month at Southwark Crown Court.
The jury also cleared Nwobu of two additional counts of rape.
During sentencing, Judge Robins described the 27-year-old as possessing a "streak of sexual arrogance." He was ordered to pay £20,000 in legal costs plus expenses related to his defense.
Investigations into the case were conducted by detectives from the West End Central Police Station.
Superintendent Alaric Bonthron stated: "There is no doubt that Nwobu exploited his role as a nightclub promoter to gain trust and manipulate women." As part of his sentence, Nwobu will be registered as a sex offender for life.
He expressed hope that the verdict would assist the victim in moving past the ordeal and focusing on her future.
Superintendent Bonthron also urged anyone who has experienced sexual assault to come forward, emphasizing that such reports are taken seriously and should not be feared.
