BRADFORD WOMAN GETS FIVE-YEAR ANIMAL BAN AFTER DOG FOUND SERIOUSLY INJURED
A Bradford woman named Chevaune Houston, aged 23, was sentenced to a five-year ban from owning animals after her dog, Rock, was found with serious injuries on September 19 last year. The dog was discovered lying in a blood-stained duvet with missing teeth, large cuts on his back, and multiple open wounds.
The police arrived at her address on Park Road, Low Moor, under unrelated circumstances and found Rock in a distressing state, which she claimed was caused by another dog attacking him at 1 am.
Houston appeared before Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on July 23, where she pleaded guilty to an Animal Welfare Act Offence.
The court investigation and evidence revealed that Rock had numerous injuries, including open wounds, bruising, and missing teeth.
The vet estimated the injuries to be over a week old and likely caused by bites or puncture wounds, close to vital structures such as blood vessels and airways.
Rock was in a suffering state, was properly treated with painkillers and sedation, and later transferred to a hospital where his injuries and scars were documented.
Houston claimed she knew nothing about the extent of Rock’s injuries and had contacted someone to help but failed to provide evidence of veterinary contact.
The police and RSPCA took action, and Rock was fully cared for and rehomed in a loving environment.
Houston was given a five-year animal ownership ban, a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work, and ordered to pay costs of £400 and a victim surcharge of £114.
The RSPCA inspector praised the efforts for Rock’s recovery and emphasized the importance of timely veterinary intervention in animal welfare cases.
