CHASE ENGLISH AND DEAN EVANS FROM GILFACH GOCH SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ANIMAL NEGLECT IN PORTH

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community of Gilfach Goch, two men, Chase Alan English and Dean Evans, were found guilty of severe neglect towards a group of domestic fowls on an allotment in Porth. English, born on August 17, 1986, and residing on Gelliarael Road, along with Evans, born around 1983 and living on Kenry Street, were both held accountable for the suffering inflicted upon the birds.

According to court records, both men admitted to causing unnecessary pain and distress to 17 chickens and ducks by neglecting their basic needs, particularly their nutritional requirements. They also pleaded guilty to failing to provide a suitable environment for approximately 20 other domestic fowls, which included neglecting their dietary needs and overall welfare.

The incident came to light when RSPCA Cymru officers responded to a distress call and visited the allotment in Gilfach Goch. Upon inspection, they discovered the birds living in appalling conditions, many of which appeared to be extremely hungry and in poor health. The animals were under the joint responsibility of English and Evans, as part of an agreement concerning the management of the allotment. However, it became evident that there was a breakdown in communication between the two men regarding who was responsible for the daily care of the birds, leading to what was described as “shocking levels” of neglect.

During the investigation, several birds were found dead at the scene, and one more succumbed to its injuries while receiving veterinary treatment. The conditions of the birds and the state of neglect were deemed unacceptable by animal welfare standards. RSPCA inspector Simon Evans expressed his outrage, stating, “These poor domestic fowl were left in hugely inappropriate conditions, and subjected to shocking levels of neglect.”

In court, the judge sentenced Chase English and Dean Evans to 16 weeks in prison. Additionally, they were ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115. Both men were also banned indefinitely from keeping any domestic fowl, a measure aimed at preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future. The case has drawn widespread condemnation from animal rights advocates and highlights the importance of responsible pet ownership and proper animal welfare practices in the Gilfach Goch community.
