CHARLOTTE ORR BANNED FROM OWNING ANIMALS CONVICTED IN NEWTON AYCLIFFE FOR BREACHING DISQUALIFICATION AND NEGLECT
In a recent case heard at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court, Charlotte Orr, a 33-year-old woman with a history of animal ownership restrictions, was found guilty of violating her court-ordered disqualification from owning animals.Orr did not attend her scheduled hearing in person, but the magistrates proceeded to convict her in her absence after reviewing the evidence presented.
The charges against her stem from incidents that took place on or before October 12, 2023, at her residence on Greenlee Garth in Newton Aycliffe.
The court found that she had failed to provide proper care for a variety of pets, including three guppy-type fish, three goldfish, a loach, a catfish, and eleven rats.
These animals were reportedly neglected, and her failure to meet their basic needs was a key factor in her conviction under the Animal Welfare Act of 2006.
Charlotte Orr’s history with animal ownership is significant, as she was previously disqualified from owning animals following a prosecution in June 2014 at South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court.
Despite this court order, she allegedly continued to keep pets, which constitutes a clear breach of her disqualification.
The court noted that her recent actions further violated the restrictions imposed on her, highlighting a pattern of disregard for the legal restrictions designed to protect animal welfare.
The proceedings at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court have been adjourned, with sentencing scheduled for the following month.
