MAN ATTACKED EX-PARTNER IN JEALOUS OUTBURST

A young man responsible for breaking into his former partner's residence and assaulting those inside has been sentenced to jail due to his jealous and aggressive outburst.

Charlie Dobbing, along with his friend Bruce Coffey, carried out the attack as revenge after Dobbing was ejected from a nightclub in Darlington following an argument with the mother of his two children.

The 19-year-old later went to her home and damaged several windows before returning a few hours later with a knife and a bike seat pole.

During a hearing at Teesside Crown Court, it was explained how both teenagers entered the property quietly, with Dobbing assaulting his ex-partner and Coffey hitting a male individual with a metal bar before fleeing.

Prosecutor Paul Cleasby stated that Dobbing refused to accept the end of his relationship and attacked her house after being expelled from the nightclub.

He described how Dobbing and Coffey returned in the early hours armed with weapons, waking the occupants, with Dobbing entering her bedroom and attacking a man using a bike seat pole.

The court heard that the victim’s partner tried to intervene, as did another friend, but Dobbing was seen attempting to retrieve a knife from his tracksuit pocket.

Meanwhile, Coffey was observed wielding a metal pole, hitting a male victim at the back of the head who was dressed in dark clothing and wearing a balaclava.

After the assault, the pair fled the scene, continuing to attack the woman and her female friend, before fighting a male friend who was present.

The incident escalated further when police arrived to arrest Dobbing, and he assaulted two officers by headbutting one and punching the other.

Dobbing, of Coxwold Drive in Darlington, pleaded guilty to charges including affray, criminal damage, and assaulting emergency personnel stemming from events on January 26 and 27.

Represented by Robin Turton, his lawyer, it was noted that Dobbing’s mental health and drug issues worsened following his father’s sudden death, which contributed to the incident.

Coffey, residing on Neasham Road, Darlington, admitted to affray, acting out of misplaced loyalty, and was represented by Robert Mochrie.

The judge, Deborah Sherwin, sentenced Dobbing to 67 weeks in prison; Coffey received a six-month sentence suspended for two years, along with requirements for rehabilitation and community service.

The judge pointed out that both teens disregarded requests to leave and that Dobbing had attempted to draw a knife during the assault.
