CHARLES MORGAN ROTHERHAM SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO NEARLY 30 YEARS IN PRISON
In a significant legal development, Charles Morgan, a 48-year-old market trader from Midland Road, Masbrough, Rotherham, has been sentenced to an extensive prison term of 27 years for a series of heinous sexual offences committed against minors. The sentencing was carried out at Sheffield Crown Court, where Morgan appeared via video link from Leeds Prison, showing no visible emotion as Judge Roger Thomas delivered the verdict.
Over the course of a two-week trial, Morgan was convicted on multiple counts, including ten charges of indecent assault, five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, three counts of sexual assault, paying for sexual services of a child, and rape.
These offences spanned a period of several years and involved five young boys and a teenage girl, highlighting a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
The court's findings revealed that Morgan specifically targeted vulnerable children, including a boy as young as 11 years old when the abuse began.
The offences against the minors took place over a lengthy period, with some incidents dating back to the 1980s and others occurring more recently, within the last decade.
The case also involved the rape of a teenage girl, adding to the gravity of Morgan’s crimes.
The investigation was initiated after the first victim came forward to police in June 2016.
His account led authorities to identify additional victims, prompting a comprehensive inquiry into Morgan’s activities.
During police interviews, Morgan denied all allegations, claiming that the sexually explicit text messages exchanged with one of the boys were merely “banter” and that no actual abuse had occurred.
Despite his denials, evidence collected during the investigation proved his guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
In addition to his prison sentence, Morgan has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
The court’s decision underscores the severity of his crimes and the importance of protecting vulnerable minors from such predatory individuals.
Morgan’s case serves as a stark reminder of the persistent dangers posed by sexual offenders in communities like Rotherham, and the justice system’s commitment to holding offenders accountable for their actions.
