BARROW MAN CHARLES GLOVER ADMITS TO BREACHING SEXUAL RISK ORDER AFTER BIRD SONG YOUTUBE SEARCH
A MAN in his sixties has admitted to breaching his sexual risk order - after searching for a bird song video on YouTube.Charles Glover entered guilty pleas to two charges of breaching the order when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on August 13.
Prosecutor Lee Dacre said the 63-year-old was made the subject of the SRO for five years on March 1, 2022.
He said one of requirements included declaring any new unregistered electronic device capable of accessing the internet to police within three days.
The court Glover signed an agreement on January 16 this year when police attended his address on Osborne Street, Barrow, to say he understood the terms of the order.
However the court was told the defendant breached his SRO when officers attended his address for a routine check on July 14.
“Police checked to see if he was complying with the order,” Mr Dacre said.
"He was asked if he had any new devices.
The defendant said he did not.
Officers asked him if he went to any relatives.
He told police he went to his father’s but he had no devices there.” The court heard officers attended the defendant’s father’s home who said his son had a laptop he kept there.
Inquiries revealed Glover had used YouTube on the laptop on one occasion to search for a bird song at the request of his father.
Glover also admitted he had breached the order by failing to notify the police Violent and Sex Offender Register team within three days of using the electronic device.
Mr Dacre said this was the third or fourth time the defendant had breached his SRO.
In mitigation, defence advocate Andy Gallagher said: “There is a basis of plea to these offences.
You have heard both offences relate to one laptop.
This does not belong to him.
It belongs to his wife who purchased it to keep at his father’s address.
Devices from his address have been removed from his address and sent for analysis.
There has never been anything illegal found.
He is the carer for his wife who has learning difficulties.” Magistrates decided to order for a pre-sentence report to be prepared before passing sentence.
Glover will next appear before the court on September 9.
He was granted unconditional bail.
