YORKSHIREMAN JAILED FOR CHILD THREATS AND DOMESTIC ASSAULT
A North Yorkshire man has been sentenced to two years in prison following his assault on a woman in the presence of her two young children.Changase Akatar, aged 44 and a resident of Birch Avenue in Malton, was convicted at Sheffield Crown Court last week for attacking the woman violently, pulling her hair while she lay on the ground until she lost consciousness.
The woman later awoke to find Akatar strangling her seven-year-old son and threatening to bite off his nose.
PC Ethan Knight of South Yorkshire Police explained that the incident took place within the context of a relationship.
He noted that the victim was so frightened that she did not report the incident until three years later, at which point there was no physical or photographic evidence of her injuries.
Nonetheless, social care records from that period detailed the injuries noted by social workers, and her children could describe what happened in detail.
The officer commended the resilience and patience shown by the victim, alongside the courage of the children and the support from social services, and called on others suffering from domestic violence to come forward.
