A disturbing incident unfolded at a bustling pub in Porthcawl when Carter Munroe became involved in a violent assault that left his former girlfriend with a serious injury. The altercation escalated quickly, resulting in Munroe violently smashing a glass into her face, which caused a deep cut on her forehead. The injury was severe enough to require six stitches, highlighting the brutality of the attack.This was not an isolated incident. Court records reveal that Munroe had previously attacked the same woman less than two months earlier. That earlier assault took place shortly before Christmas last year, amid a tense situation where Munroe was upset about his partner standing too close to another man while waiting in a queue at a bar. The situation quickly turned violent, with Munroe shouting and punching a wall inside the establishment before the confrontation spilled out onto the street.
According to court testimony, as they walked along the seafront in Porthcawl, Munroe expressed his anger and told his partner that he wanted to hurt her. Without warning, he headbutted her in the face, causing injuries that necessitated medical attention and the application of six stitches. The court heard that this act of violence was part of a pattern of aggressive behavior, culminating in the recent assault at the pub.
Munroe, who resides on South Road in Porthcawl, pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and unlawful wounding. Despite having no prior convictions, he does have a youth caution for a different offence. His sentencing resulted in a prison term of ten months for the grievous bodily harm and an additional two months for the assault, with both sentences to run concurrently. It was also noted that Munroe is expected to serve up to half of his sentence in custody before being released on licence.
The presiding judge acknowledged Munroe’s remorse and recognized his potential for rehabilitation. However, the judge emphasized that the violent acts committed by Munroe inflicted lasting physical injuries and emotional trauma on his victim, underscoring the seriousness of the offenses committed in Porthcawl.
