A domestic abuser who viciously attacked a woman, knocking her unconscious, has been sentenced to jail.Carl Hills was arrested in December 2024 following a terrifying campaign of abuse which included verbal threats, physical violence, and controlling behavior.
According to police reports, the victim was seen covered in bruises after being attacked by Hills and was found to be unconscious at the scene.
During investigation, officers discovered Hills kept the woman’s mobile phone to prevent her from leaving and would regularly question her whereabouts, demanding she send pictures to prove where she was, while issuing threats to keep her fearful of him.
Last month at Teesside Crown Court, Hills admitted to controlling and coercive behavior and was sentenced to 38 months in jail.
The victim spoke out about the lasting effects of the abuse, stating, “The physical effects will fade, but the lasting impact on my mental health and outlook on life will be forever.” She described losing her confidence and feeling she was in survival mode for a long time.
She added, “I still live in fear, and I worry I will never be good enough, having been made to feel worthless for so long.” Support was provided through My Sister’s Place, with an independent domestic violence advocate assisting her throughout the process.
