DARLINGTON MAN JAILED FOR STALKING AND ACID THREATS TO EX-PARTNER
A man named Carl Britton has been sentenced to prison for his malicious conduct towards his ex-partner.He committed multiple offences including stalking causing fear of violence and criminal damage between June 30 and November 1 of the previous year.
Britton harassed the woman extensively over four months, bombarding her with thousands of calls and messages, and even slashed her car tires after showing up uninvited at a party.
The court heard how Britton repeatedly appeared at her home, knocked on her door, and followed her in his car, once blocking her on the A66 near Sadberge and shouting abuse at her.
Prosecutor Emma Atkinson described how Britton threatened to maim her and told her he knew someone who would throw acid in her face, leaving her genuinely fearful that these threats would be carried out.
The victim stated she felt 'on edge 24 hours a day' and unsafe in her own home due to his unpredictable and threatening actions.
The court was told Britton had a history of similar offences, and Judge Nathan Adams imposed a sentence of two years and four months in prison.
Additionally, a ten-year restraining order was issued to protect the woman from further harm.
Britton, from Lanethorpe Crescent, Darlington, acknowledged his ongoing mental health challenges and stated he had sought help but lacked access to proper support.
