CALUM ADAMS SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS IN PRISON IN EAST KILBRIDE FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST GIRL

A man named Calum Adams, 25, from East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment after admitting to serious sexual offences involving a young girl. Adams was arrested after the girl, aged nine, confided in her mother that he had been repeatedly assaulting her and sending her obscene messages. The brave girl showed her mother the disturbing texts he had sent.

Adams first met the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, when she was just four years old. Over time, he committed multiple sexual assaults against her. The young victim kept her ordeal secret until she finally told her mother, who demanded an explanation. In a concerning message, Adams wrote: "I hate paedos and now I have become one, I hate myself because of it." He further expressed his remorse, saying, "I never meant to do it, I feel sick," and upon realizing the police had been contacted, he wrote, "I shouldn't be alive, I am vile, I am a monster."

At Hamilton Sheriff Court, Adams admitted to sexually assaulting the girl between August and October of the previous year. He also admitted to sending her messages of a sexual nature intentionally. Sheriff Thomas Millar ordered that Adams be placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for 10 years.

Depute fiscal Michael Macintosh stated: "He began texting her to ask her to let him touch her, claiming that she would like it. She showed these messages to her mother, who confronted the accused, leading to his admission of both touching the girl and sending the inappropriate messages. The case was then reported to the police." The messages reportedly included phrases such as "trust me you would love it."

Following confrontation, Adams contacted the girl’s mother via text, saying, "I don't blame you for feeling this way and I will go to therapy," and added, "I don't blame you for hating me, I hate paedos and now I have become one, I hate myself because of it."

Defense lawyer Sandy Morrison acknowledged Adams’s full cooperation, stating: "It is clear he co-operated fully and there are no matters outstanding, and he has no record. As a consequence of these offences, his family will not provide an address for him, given the serious nature of the crimes. While these are extremely serious offences, he has been remanded since his arrest in October and is considered a low risk for re-offending in the future."

The court noted that Adams has now been disowned by his family. Sheriff Millar commented: "It is clear from the report that you bitterly regret your involvement in this, but you understand the impact these charges have on those involved. While in custody, you will begin receiving some assistance, and it will be up to you to decide whether further help is necessary upon your release. You have recognized the severity of your actions and the consequences that follow."
