During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Fife displayed an electronic tagging device on his ankle, which he used to try to intimidate the girl further. He also attempted to kiss her, despite her clear protests and requests for him to stop. Following the assault, British Transport Police launched a thorough investigation into the incident.
