MAN JAILED AFTER BEATING HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND
A man from Doncaster has been sentenced to over two years in prison following a brutal assault on his former girlfriend. Two bystanders had to intervene in order to rescue her from life-threatening harm.
Callum Currie, aged 21, had been in a relationship with the victim for six months before they decided to part ways.
Several weeks after the breakup, on 26 July 2021, Currie attacked her so violently that she lost consciousness.
Fortunately, two members of the public forced entry into the woman’s residence and managed to pull Currie away from her.
Her injuries were so serious that she was unable to see for three days, and she bore an imprint of his shoe on her face.
The two civilians involved were acknowledged as finalists at the police force’s Bravery Awards in 2021 and have also been recognized by Doncaster Council for their courageous actions.
PC Gordon Doudie, who works with Doncaster’s Domestic Abuse Team, stated: “It is remarkable that Currie’s victim escaped with no life-changing physical injuries.
I really do thank the two members of the public who helped her that day – I know the victim credits them with saving her life, as do I.” “This result will hopefully help this woman to put this behind her.
I know she is still dealing with significant psychological and emotional scars, but she has shown tremendous courage and tenacity throughout this investigation and court process.
“I hope this sends a message to those who seek to harm those they supposedly love, that justice will be done no matter what.” Currie, formerly residing on Crossfield Lane, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, 8 April, to 28 months in prison.
Additionally, he received an eight-year ban from approaching the victim, through a restraining order.
