CALLUM BROWN'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN INVERNESS AND ULAPOOL LEAD TO 40 MONTHS JAIL SENTENCE

Callum Brown, a 27-year-old man from Inverness, has been sentenced to a total of 40 months in prison following a series of serious criminal offences involving domestic abuse and violence against women. The sentencing took place at Inverness Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Sara Matheson described Brown as ''a danger to women'' and underscored the significant threat he poses to the safety and well-being of women in the community.

Brown’s criminal history includes a disturbing pattern of violent and abusive behaviour spanning several years. The court heard that his offences occurred across properties in both Ullapool and Inverness, with incidents dating back to February 2014 and continuing until July 2021. These offences encompass six separate assaults resulting in injuries, acts of domestic abuse, stalking, threatening conduct, and violations of court orders designed to protect victims. The severity of his actions was highlighted by specific incidents, such as pushing a pregnant partner against a doorframe, burning her with a cigarette, grabbing her by the neck, and making repeated threatening remarks. Additionally, he was found to have assaulted another woman who was also pregnant, attempting to strike her with a crutch during a violent episode.

Brown had been held on remand since July 21 of the previous year, and upon sentencing, he was ordered to serve his time with strict supervision for ten months following his release. Conditions attached to his release stipulate that any breach of the terms would result in his return to prison. Furthermore, he faces five non-harassment orders intended to safeguard the victims from further contact or abuse.

The court was informed that the domestic abuse task force had uncovered additional victims, revealing the full extent of Brown’s harmful actions. The impact on the victims’ lives was described as profound, with many suffering lasting emotional and physical scars. Brown’s defence team acknowledged his unacceptable behaviour, attributing some of his actions to underlying mental health issues and problems related to medication addiction. They expressed genuine remorse for his conduct, but the court emphasized that his repeated offences demonstrated a serious and ongoing risk to women’s safety.

In delivering the sentence, Sheriff Sara Matheson reiterated the gravity of Brown’s behaviour, emphasizing that his actions showed a clear pattern of violence and abuse that cannot be overlooked. The court’s decision reflects the need to protect vulnerable women from further harm and to hold offenders accountable for their actions, especially when such conduct endangers the community at large.
