NORWICH MAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX CRIMES IN SHOCK COURT VERDICT

A Norwich man named Callan Day, aged 33, was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court for multiple child sex offences, causing significant trauma to his victims. He received a custodial sentence of 16 years in prison, with an additional year to be served on license. The charges against him included two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, three counts of sexual activity with a child, and one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act. Additionally, he is now subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) which prevents any unsupervised contact with children. The court heard that these offences occurred in Norwich over several years, starting from the mid-2010s up until recently. The case came to light after the victim, a young child, confided in their school, leading to Day’s arrest, interview, and eventual guilty plea. The victim expressed deep trauma, stating: “Until only a few months ago I had to deal with this deep trauma by myself. No young person should have to carry this by themselves but due to what Callan did, I had to for years and years. Speaking directly to Callan, they added: “If I could take all that time back that you stole from me then I would, but I can’t and I have to live with that. I can’t fully put into words how I feel about you other than just deep anger because you wasted my youth.” PC Joe McLoughlin highlighted the bravery of the victim in coming forward and emphasized the impact of Day’s crimes. The offences took place while the victim was a vulnerable child in Norwich, spanning from the mid-2010s to this year. The case was investigated after the victim disclosed the abuse in school, leading to Day’s arrest and guilty plea. The offender is now imprisoned, and a court order has been imposed to prevent any further contact with children.
