BULENT SESSACAR'S TRAGIC END IN CROYDON: FROM 2012 MURDER TO 2025 DEATH IN PRISON CELL

In a somber development, Bulent Sessacar, a man previously convicted of a brutal murder in Croydon, was found dead in his cell at HMP Woodhill on January 21, 2021. His death marks a tragic conclusion to a case that had garnered significant attention due to the severity of his crime and the circumstances surrounding his mental health.

Back in 2012, Sessacar was involved in a heinous act that shocked the Croydon community. He was convicted of killing his wife, Rebecca Sessacar, aged 25, in their residence on Duppas Hill Terrace. The incident occurred in 2012, when police responded to reports of a disturbance at the couple’s flat. Upon arrival, they discovered Rebecca suffering from multiple stab wounds. The attack was particularly brutal, with her being stabbed 58 times using two kitchen knives.

During the trial at the Old Bailey in 2014, it was revealed that Sessacar, then 29 years old, admitted to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. The court heard that his mental health issues played a significant role in the attack. Despite this, he was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of ten years and eight months. The sentencing judge acknowledged the tragic impact on Rebecca’s family and the young child left without both parents.

Detective Chief Inspector Russell Taylor commented on the case, stating, “This is a tragic incident that has effectively left a young child without both her parents. Whilst Sessacar’s mental health issues were a factor in the attack, it is right that he should face the consequences.” The case remains a stark reminder of the devastating effects of mental health struggles intertwined with violent crime.

Sadly, the story does not end with the conviction. On January 21, 2021, Bulent Sessacar was found dead in his cell at HMP Woodhill. The circumstances of his death are yet to be fully disclosed, but it marks a somber chapter in a case that has left a lasting impact on the Croydon community and the families involved.
