BRYAN BOWEN FROM BORFA GREEN ESCAPES JAIL AFTER ONLINE SEXUAL INNUENDOS TOWNS OF WELSHPOOL AND MOLD

In November 2017, a disturbing case involving Bryan Bowen, a 26-year-old resident of Borfa Green, came to light at Mold Crown Court. Bowen was accused of engaging in inappropriate online conduct with two young girls, aged 13 and 15, by messaging them through Facebook and attempting to solicit sexual acts and explicit photographs.

Judge Rhys Rowland addressed the court, describing Bowen as someone who was 'trying to live out some sort of fantasy.' Despite the serious nature of his actions, the judge decided against imposing a custodial sentence, citing Bowen's small stature and emotional vulnerability as factors that would make imprisonment particularly difficult for him. The judge emphasized that Bowen had no prior criminal record, but acknowledged that his conduct was 'very, very wrong.'

The court was informed that Bowen had approached the 15-year-old girl with explicit messages, including a Facebook message that read, 'do you want to f…?' which she found shocking and upsetting. She attempted to block him, but Bowen continued to contact her, sending a message on her 16th birthday stating, 'I will f… you for your birthday present.'

Further investigation into Bowen's online activity revealed that he had previously contacted a 13-year-old girl on Facebook. In those messages, he described her as 'fit as f…' and inquired whether she was single. He also asked her out, promising to treat her well, but when she refused, he persisted by requesting naked photographs. The messages also included calls of admiration, with Bowen referring to her as 'beautiful and sexy.'

When questioned during his arrest, Bowen claimed that he believed the girls were older than they actually were. He admitted to the charges of incitement, which related to his actions between July and October 2015. A charge of harassment was dropped during the proceedings.

In sentencing, Judge Rowland handed Bowen a 48-week prison sentence, suspended for two years. Additionally, Bowen was placed under a rehabilitation program and ordered to follow specific courses arranged by the probation service. As part of his punishment, he will be subject to a curfew, remaining indoors from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. for three months, monitored by a tagged device. The judge warned that any breach of this order would result in immediate imprisonment.

Furthermore, Bowen was subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and was ordered to register as a sex offender with the police for the same duration. The judge emphasized that young girls, such as the 13- and 15-year-olds involved, already face enough challenges without being targeted by individuals like Bowen, who seek to exploit their innocence through online harassment and inappropriate requests.
