BLAIRGOWRIE MAN INSTALLED SPYING CAMERA AND ASSAULTED POLICE DURING ARREST
The article reports on Bruce Wilson, a 47-year-old man from Blairgowrie, who was convicted of engaging in coercive and controlling behavior against his wife, whom he had been with for 20 years.Wilson admitted to installing a hidden camera in his house to monitor his wife’s movements, driven by his obsession with the belief that she was having an affair.
The court heard that he behaved abusively, shouting, swearing, making offensive remarks, slamming doors, and accusing her of infidelity between November 1, 2021, and November 28, 2022.
This included installing a spy camera to keep her under surveillance and subsequently assaulting a police officer during his arrest.
During the incident, officers found him asleep upstairs surrounded by empty bottles, smelled of alcohol, and noted his refusal to cooperate, with him repeatedly stating ‘f*** you’ and kicking an officer.
Wilson made admissions of controlling, coercive, and abusive behavior towards his wife, stating the camera was installed to monitor her.
He was also charged for assaulting an officer.
His lawyer explained that Wilson was seeking medical help for his obsession, which centered on his wife potentially having an illicit relationship, and his alcohol use as self-medication.
The sheriff imposed an 18-month supervision order, requiring Wilson to undergo treatment for alcohol abuse and counseling, and further placed a two-year non-harassment order.
The court described the offences as extremely serious.
