BRIAN AND PRECIOUS KANDARE FROM WEDNESFIELD SENTENCED FOR INFANT DAUGHTER REBECCA'S DEATH DUE TO NEGLECT AND STARVATION

In a tragic case that has shocked the community of Wednesfield, a couple with deeply held religious beliefs has been held accountable for the death of their infant daughter, Rebecca. Brian and Precious Kandare faced justice after their failure to seek necessary medical treatment for their 8-month-old child, which ultimately led to her untimely demise.

Rebecca Kandare suffered from severe malnutrition and was neglected to the point where her health deteriorated critically. Despite medical professionals warning of the dangers and the need for urgent care, the couple adhered to their faith's teachings that oppose conventional medical intervention. They believed that illnesses could be caused by evil spirits, and as a result, they ignored medical advice and refused to seek hospital treatment for their daughter.

The tragic events culminated in Rebecca being admitted to a hospital in January 2014, where she was found to be suffering from preventable conditions caused by neglect and starvation. Despite efforts to save her, her condition was too severe, and she succumbed to her illness. The court heard that the prolonged neglect by Brian and Precious Kandare was criminal in nature, highlighting their failure to provide basic healthcare and protect their child's well-being.

During the trial, the judge emphasized the severity of their neglect, which directly contributed to Rebecca's death. The couple's unwavering faith-based beliefs did not exempt them from legal responsibility. As a result, Brian Kandare was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison, while Precious Kandare received an eight-year sentence.
