OSWESTRY MAN JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF PARTNER
A 59-year-old craftsman from Shropshire has received a 12-year prison term after being convicted of killing his partner. The woman, 45-year-old Jill Louise Nevitt, was discovered deceased at their residence on Orchard Street in Oswestry on 14 December 2010.
Although initially pleading not guilty to the charge of murder, Woodmass later changed his stance and admitted to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.
Psychiatric examinations supported this claim, leading the judge at Stafford Crown Court to determine that pursuing a murder trial was not in the interest of justice.
Consequently, Woodmass was given a substantial sentence for manslaughter in connection with his partner's death.
