GORTON PAEDOPHILE BRIAN WILKINSON SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN GREATER MANCHESTER

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Gorton and the wider Greater Manchester area, a 40-year-old man named Brian Wilkinson has been sentenced to prison for possessing, creating, and distributing a vast collection of indecent images of children. The case came to light in September 2001 when police officers executed a search warrant at Wilkinson's residence in Gorton, uncovering an astonishing cache of child abuse material.

During the raid, detectives seized approximately 50,000 images, with some dating back as far as two decades. The material included photographs of local children from Manchester and Bolton, as well as very young children, some as young as six months old. The images depicted children in various states of undress and involved in sexual acts with adult males, highlighting the severity and depravity of Wilkinson's activities.

Further investigations revealed that Wilkinson was actively involved in online chat rooms, where he communicated about his obsession with children. His online activity and the physical evidence recovered from his home painted a disturbing picture of a man deeply engaged in the exploitation of minors.

Wilkinson pleaded guilty to 41 counts related to the possession, creation, and distribution of indecent photographs of children, covering the period from August 1998 to September 2001. The police confirmed that the total number of images found at his home was around 100,000, making it believed to be the largest seizure of such material in the United Kingdom.

Following the sentencing at Manchester Crown Court, authorities emphasized the scale of Wilkinson's collection. A police spokesperson stated, "There were so many photographs and images we actually had to stop counting." The court was informed that many of the images involved children from the local areas of Manchester and Bolton, with some as young as six months old, engaged in sexual acts or shown in naked states.

Wilkinson's arrest was prompted by an incident in which he was observed filming children in a local park. Security personnel at the park detained him, leading to the police investigation and subsequent search of his home. The detectives recovered thousands of images, predominantly of children aged between five and fourteen.

Judge Michael Henshell sentenced Wilkinson to a total of five years in prison for distributing indecent images, with additional sentences of six months for possession and two years for creating the images. All sentences are to run concurrently. The judge expressed his firm stance on the matter, stating, "It is abominably clear that you are a paedophile. You are attracted to children of both sexes."

He further emphasized the seriousness of Wilkinson's actions, particularly the distribution of images over the internet, which he described as the most grave offense. Wilkinson was also ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for life and was banned from working with children.

Outside the courtroom, Detective Constable Andrea Bradley of Greater Manchester Police’s abusive images unit commented on the case, saying, "This is the largest and most disturbing collection of images I have investigated and it clearly illustrates the extent of Wilkinson's unhealthy interest in children." She added that the advent of the internet and digital photography has unfortunately facilitated such crimes, but also provided law enforcement with tools to track and gather evidence against offenders more effectively.
