RICHARD FORREST CAUGHT IN GORTON BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS AFTER SENDING SEXUAL MESSAGES TO FAKE 14-YEAR-OLD
In a case that highlights the dangers of online predators and the vigilant efforts of community groups, Richard Forrest, a 32-year-old man from Gorton, was caught after attempting to engage in sexual communication with a person he believed to be a 14-year-old girl.The incident unfolded in April 2019 when a paedophile hunter organization known as 'Taxi For Nonce UK' confronted Forrest and live-streamed the encounter on Facebook, bringing his actions to public attention.
According to court proceedings, Forrest had initiated contact with what he thought was a young girl through the messaging app FastMeet.
The profile he contacted was under the alias 'Brooke,' claiming to be 14 years old.
The messages started on March 13 and quickly escalated from casual chatting to explicit sexual discussions, as detailed by prosecutor Daniel Calder during the hearing.
It was revealed that Forrest expressed a desire for sexual activity and even mentioned knowing another girl who could help the supposed 'child' learn about sex.
The communication continued beyond the initial app, moving to WhatsApp, where the conversation delved further into sexual topics and personal boundaries, including questions about whether her parents checked her phone.
The court heard that Forrest did not disclose his court appearance to his employer and has not returned to work since being remanded in custody.
A pre-sentence report described Forrest as 'atypical of predatory paedophiles,' suggesting his behavior was not characteristic of typical offenders in this category.
Judge Martin Rudland sentenced Forrest to a 24-month community order, which includes 35 days of rehabilitation activities.
Forrest, who resides on Ewan Street in Gorton, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
Additionally, he is required to sign the sex offenders' register for five years, marking a significant legal step in addressing his actions.
