FIRE OFFICER FROM ST OSYTH CAUGHT WITH INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN AND ANIMALS
A retired fire officer named Brian Wickenden from St Osyth engaged in 'shocking offending' by downloading images depicting bestiality and child abuse, with a total of 29 pictures saved on his devices.Police raided his residence in Point Clear Road, St Osyth, in 2023 after receiving information about his online activity.
Wickenden was taken to Clacton police station, where he made no comment during the interview but later admitted to three counts of making an indecent photograph of a child and one count of possessing an extreme pornographic image.
The images included three of category A, four of category B, and one of category C, with twenty-one images depicting bestiality.
He was sentenced to a one-year jail term suspended for one year, with an additional 100 hours of unpaid work.
He is also subject to a five-year sexual harm prevention order and was ordered to pay £239 in costs.
The court ordered the destruction of multiple devices, including two mobile phones, two computers, a USB drive, and a megadrive, which contained the indecent images.
Magistrate Lucy Lavender highlighted that Wickenden's actions have contributed to 'lifelong psychological harm and emotional harm to children' and emphasized that the physical and sexual harm caused will impact victims for the rest of their lives.
Wickenden was supported in court by his family, and it was noted that he does not have a sexual interest in children but derived sexual gratification from the images of bestiality.
The case underscores societal upset that someone in a responsible position, like Wickenden, committed such acts, remorsefully concluding with Wickenden’s sentence and destruction order.
