BRAIN LLOYD FROM PONTLLANFRAITH JAILED FOR RAPE ON REMOTE MOUNTAINSIDE ROAD IN GWENT
In a case that has shocked the community of Pontllanfraith and the wider Gwent area, Brian Lloyd, aged 36, was sentenced to a decade behind bars for a serious sexual assault that took place on a secluded mountainside road. The incident involved a schoolgirl, and Lloyd was convicted of one specific charge of rape following a trial held at Newport Crown Court last month.According to court records, Lloyd, who resides on Brynteg Avenue in Pontllanfraith, was found guilty of coercing the young girl into performing a sexual act on him during the incident in January of this year. The prosecution argued that Lloyd had deliberately driven the girl to a remote location, falsely claiming they were heading to a nearby shop, only to commit the assault in the isolated setting.
The jury, after careful deliberation, acquitted Lloyd of several other serious allegations, including another charge of rape, four counts of indecent assault, two charges of indecency with a child, and one count of sexual assault. All these charges pertained to alleged offenses involving the girl when she was under the age of 13.
During the trial, the victim provided a harrowing account, describing her experience as “scary” and stating that Lloyd was “pushing me into doing things.” Following the assault, she decided to report the incident to the police, demonstrating her resolve to seek justice despite the trauma.
In his defense, Lloyd’s lawyer, Tracey Lloyd-Nesling, challenged the credibility of the victim, suggesting that she might have fabricated the story to cause him significant trouble. Lloyd himself denied all allegations, asserting that he had never engaged in any sexual contact with the girl nor coerced her into touching him.
In mitigation, Lloyd-Nesling emphasized that her client “maintains his innocence as he always has,” and highlighted that many people who know Lloyd speak highly of him, describing him as well-liked, respected, and held in high regard. She expressed her shock at his conviction, noting that it was unexpected among his acquaintances.
Judge Christopher Vosper, QC, presided over the case and explained that he was applying new sentencing guidelines in determining Lloyd’s punishment. Consequently, Lloyd was sentenced to ten years in prison, with the possibility of parole after serving half of his sentence. Additionally, Lloyd was disqualified from working with children and ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his conduct.
