BRAIN BARTLE'S SHOCKING SEX OFFENDER CASE IN FLINT REVEALS PAST ABUSES

In November 2014, a disturbing case involving Brian Bartle, a 71-year-old resident of Richard Heights in Flint, came to light as he was sentenced to serve a two-year prison term for multiple instances of sexual abuse against young girls. The court proceedings revealed a troubling history of misconduct that spanned over a decade, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior that had long gone unchecked.

During the hearing at Mold Crown Court, it was disclosed that Bartle had admitted to sexually abusing two young girls, with incidents occurring approximately four and eleven years prior to the sentencing. The court also learned that in a separate case from the previous year, Bartle had confessed to molesting a different young girl. In that particular incident, he initially asked her for a simple hug but then proceeded to inappropriately grab her breasts, an act that led to him being placed on a community order at the time.

Despite this earlier intervention, the court found that Bartle’s behavior persisted. He was ultimately sentenced to two years in prison, and as part of his punishment, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years. Additionally, he was subjected to a 10-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPA), which was designed to prevent him from being alone with children, aiming to reduce the risk of further offenses.

Judge Niclas Parry delivered a stern judgment, criticizing Bartle’s inability to control his sexual urges. The judge stated, “You are clearly a man who cannot control your sexual desires to assault young females,” emphasizing the calculated and predatory nature of his actions. The judge further condemned Bartle’s manipulative tendencies, asserting that he would exploit situations to satisfy his own sexual gratification.

Historical context was also provided during the sentencing. It was revealed that in 2003, when Bartle was 59, he befriended a teenage girl at a campsite and took advantage of her, providing her with alcohol and persuading her to lie to her parents about her overnight stay. This incident marked the beginning of a prolonged course of sexual misconduct. The court noted that Bartle’s attitude towards his offenses was one of denial, and he attempted to shift blame onto his victims, despite having the opportunity to engage with community-based support programs.

Further disturbing details emerged about a second incident in 2006, when Bartle, then 63, sexually assaulted a girl of primary school age. The victim, now an adult, later confided in a staff member after seeing Bartle in the street, revealing the lasting trauma caused by his actions. She described suffering from nightmares, reliving the assault, and struggling to trust men, with plans to seek counseling after the proceedings.

Prosecutor Andrew Green explained that the 2003 incident had initially been investigated by police but was dismissed at the time. It was only after the later complaint that the case was reopened, leading to Bartle’s admission of guilt regarding the campsite assault in North Wales.

In her victim impact statement, the now adult woman expressed how the abuse had profoundly affected her mental health, causing significant stress and emotional scars that persisted into adulthood.

Defense lawyer Jonathan Duffy stated that Bartle wished to sincerely apologize for his actions, acknowledging the gravity of his misconduct. The judge noted that this remorse was not evident in the pre-sentence report, but Duffy emphasized that Bartle recognized his behavior was unacceptable. Given his age and current engagement with probation services, the defense suggested that a custodial sentence could potentially be suspended, accompanied by a structured package of conditions aimed at punishing him and safeguarding the public from further harm.
