BRIAN ADSETT JAILED IN LAUNCESTON FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In November 2012, a man named Brian Adsett, aged 36, was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Truro Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a girl who was only 15 years old.Adsett, who was described as a man of previously good character, was living in the Launceston area at the time of the offense.
The prosecution, represented by Mary McCarthy, detailed how Adsett's actions had a profound and damaging impact on his young victim.
The court was informed that the girl was left in a state of severe distress following the incident, which led her to self-harm and negatively affected her academic performance, causing her to fail her examinations.
The emotional and psychological toll on her was emphasized as a significant consequence of the crime.
During the hearing, Rupert Taylor, representing the defense, argued that Adsett had acted impulsively in a moment of madness.
He requested that his client be given a suspended sentence and be enrolled in the Thames Valley sex offenders' programme, which would provide him with necessary counseling and support.
However, Recorder Andrew Langdon QC was not persuaded by this plea.
He stated that the seriousness of the offense warranted immediate custody, and therefore, Adsett was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison.
As part of his sentence, Adsett is required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years.
Additionally, the court imposed an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
This order strictly prohibits him from seeking the company of any child under 16 or residing in any place where children under 18 are present unless he is under supervision by a parent or guardian.
The measures aim to protect the community and prevent any future offenses.
