LANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A sex offender suspected of downloading images showing children being sexually abused immediately showed remorse as he was being arrested.
Brett Alexander Watson was already monitored by police after receiving a suspended prison sentence in 2016 for downloading indecent images of children.
A risk management officer visited his home in Lanchester and confiscated a mobile phone and a tablet on July 2.
Durham Crown Court was informed that during his arrest on suspicion of reoffending, Watson said: “I don’t know why I did it.” An examination of his devices revealed seven videos depicting children as young as three years old being abused, with six of these videos stored in a password-protected application.
Watson, 24, of Holmside Avenue, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.
His lawyer, Jane Waugh, stated that Watson had made ‘full and frank’ admissions to police and anticipated an immediate custodial sentence.
The judge, James Adkin, sentenced Watson to ten months in prison and told him he seemed unaware of the harm caused to the children in these videos.
Additionally, Watson will be required to register as a sex offender for ten years.
