BRANDEN MCCABE FROM DARKLEY LEAVES ELDERLY DOG BEHIND IN KEADY - A CRUEL ACT REVEALED

In June 2015, a distressing case of animal neglect came to light involving Brendan Joseph McCabe, a resident of Moss Row, Darkley, born on 14 January 1967. The incident unfolded when the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council received a formal complaint regarding the welfare of a dog left unattended for an extended period at Lir Gardens in Keady.

According to reports, a council animal welfare officer responded promptly to the complaint and visited the property to investigate the situation. Upon arrival, the officer discovered an elderly male dog, resembling a Rottweiler, confined within the yard of the residence. The condition of the dog raised immediate concerns, especially given the length of time it had been left alone.

Further investigation revealed that Brendan McCabe was no longer residing at the property in Keady. It was also established that he had made no arrangements for the care of his dog at his previous location, nor had he taken any steps to bring the animal with him to his current residence at Moss Row, Darkley. This neglectful act left the elderly dog vulnerable and without proper supervision or care.

The dog was subsequently examined by a qualified veterinary surgeon, who assessed its health and well-being. Following the examination, the animal was taken into custody by the council’s animal welfare team. The current status and future of the dog remain unknown, raising concerns about its welfare and the circumstances surrounding its abandonment.

Brendan McCabe faced legal consequences for his actions. He was fined a relatively modest sum of £200. Notably, he was not prohibited from owning animals in the future, despite the evident neglect demonstrated in this case. The incident drew attention from local media outlets, including the Belfast Telegraph and Portadown Times, highlighting the ongoing issues of animal welfare and the responsibilities of pet owners in the region.
