MAN WHO RAPED AND THREATENED TO KILL WOMEN JAILED
A man from Surrey, Bradley Hughes of Woking, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after being convicted of raping, assaulting, and emotionally abusing two women.During the trial, it was revealed that one of his victims felt so scared she hid herself in a hotel bathroom to escape the threat to her life.
Hughes engaged in controlling conduct, issuing threats, and subjecting the women to ongoing abuse over a period of several years.
In 2022, he specifically subjected one woman to prolonged manipulative behavior, including threats that impacted various facets of her life.
On July 26, 2024, Hughes stayed in a London hotel with another woman.
During this stay, he accused her of having relationships with other men and threatened to kill her, her friends, and previous partners.
He then attacked the hotel room door repeatedly, causing damage.
Fearing for her safety, the woman took refuge in the bathroom and contacted security staff.
After this event, Hughes repeatedly showed up uninvited at the woman’s residence and bombarded her with abusive phone calls and messages.
One victim later told the court: “No one should be in fear of their life or the lives of others.
“And whilst this part ends today, I’ll unfortunately always be left with what you did to me.
“Those scars run deep but after today you will never look at me again.
“So, hear me and know that what you did to me doesn’t define me.
My strength does.” Hughes, 35, was found guilty following a three-week trial at Guildford Crown Court.
He was sentenced to 24 years in prison with an additional eight years on extended licence.
The convictions included three counts of rape, one count of coercive and controlling behaviour, one count of stalking and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
