MAN JAILED FOR MULTIPLE OFFENCES AGAINST A WOMAN
A 28-year-old man received a 27-month jail sentence following a series of crimes against a woman.Bradley Green, formerly residing on Cucumber Lane in Weston, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday, December 3, for sentencing after previously admitting to the charges during an earlier hearing.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, controlling or coercive behaviour, and harassment that caused fear of violence.
All these offences were committed against one woman.
Court proceedings revealed that Green exhibited obsessive and controlling tendencies, including using tracking applications to keep tabs on his victim’s whereabouts and confronting her when she turned off the device or was in unfamiliar locations.
He also pressed her about male friends or contacts on social media, demanded they be deleted, and frequently examined her phone.
Green confessed to violence towards the woman, which involved spitting, strangulation, and inflicting physical harm.
Additionally, he damaged her belongings and harassed her through persistent calls and texts, sometimes threatening self-harm if she did not respond.
A personal statement from the victim was read aloud in court.
She expressed: “I remember times when I was the one asking, ‘why don’t you just leave?’ But loving and trusting someone makes it feel impossible to break away.
By the time the trust is shattered and she is ready to leave, she said it isn’t safe to do so.
She reflected on her hope that her partner might change, rationalizing her stay with thoughts like ‘it’s just been a bad week,’ until she realised that leaving was too dangerous, knowing he might show up.
Initially, Green denied the charges, claiming he was also a victim of abuse.
However, he later changed his plea, admitting guilt and receiving a sentence of 27 months’ imprisonment.
He was also issued a restraining order to prohibit contact with the victim.
