Y2014: HALESOWEN MAN JAILED AFTER ASSAULTING EX-GIRLFRIEND, HER TODDLER AND THREATENING TO DROWN HER KITTEN
A former partner of Halesowen who was rejected was sentenced to eight months in prison after attacking his ex-girlfriend and her infant, and then threatening to drown her kitten.Brad Cox visited the woman's house shortly after a restraining order was issued, which explicitly prohibited any contact with her, according to prosecutor Mr.
Paul Mytton.
He stated that the 20-year-old told her he would assault her if another man was present in her home, then proceeded to grab her by the throat and push her against a wall.
Cox also threw a scart lead that hit her young child, though neither was physically harmed, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.
Following the incident, Cox made multiple abusive phone calls to the woman and threatened to break all the windows of her house.
"She has every right to feel scared," Mr.
Mytton said, noting that the woman stopped going out out of fear of encountering Cox.
During a victim statement to police, she expressed her wish for him to "stop and leave me alone." Despite being arrested and released on bail, Cox returned to her residence, became abusive again, and threatened to drown her kitten.
Cox, from Chapel House Lane, Colley Gate, admitted to breaching the restraining order twice but disputed one other breach, along with two charges of common assault.
He was convicted on the three charges after a trial, and Judge Michael Challinor sentenced him to serve time in a Young Offenders Institution.
The judge warned Cox that if he continued to harass the victim, he would be imprisoned again, emphasizing, "You are a young man.
You should be out enjoying life.
You must avoid any further prosecution." Defending solicitor Mr.
Timothy Talbot-Webb explained that the couple had a tumultuous relationship, reconciled after a bitter breakup, and that Cox’s temper was to blame, stressing that harm was never his intention.
