POLICE OFFICER SENTENCED FOR VICIOUS ABUSE AND RACIAL SLURS AGAINST GIRLFRIEND
A police officer named Bobby Cooper has been involved in abusive behavior towards his former girlfriend, Leann Walsh.During their ten-month relationship in 2015, he attacked her and sent her highly offensive and vicious WhatsApp messages, including using racial slurs such as calling her a "n***** loving c***".
Cooper's abusive conduct escalated when Ms Walsh returned late from a party in August 2015; he demanded her iPhone 5, threw it against the wall, causing it to break.
Cooper, based at Harrow Police Station, admitted to sending malicious communications in court and was previously convicted of two counts of common assault against Walsh and criminal damage to her phone.
In court, Walsh stated she "had never seen him use this language before," referring to the messages.
Cooper faces potential dismissal from the police force.
He is currently on restricted duties and has accepted potential job loss.
The judge described their relationship as "poisonous," highlighting that Cooper was violent, controlling, and manipulative.
District Judge Paul Goldspring emphasized that Cooper's actions involved both verbal and physical abuse, termed a misuse of power, and indicated that his career in law enforcement is compromised.
Cooper was sentenced to a 12-month community order, 180 hours of unpaid work, and an indefinite restraining order preventing contact with Ms Walsh.
Additionally, he must attend a 40-day Building Better Relationships program, up to 35 days of rehabilitative activities, and pay costs totaling over £600.
No compensation was awarded.
The court acknowledged the seriousness of his abusive actions, which have damaged his career and reputation.
