BLAIR MCALLUM SHAMES CAMPBELTOWN WITH VIOLENT ATTACK ON WOMAN

A 20-year-old man named Blair McCallum appeared before Campbeltown Sheriff Patrick Hughes last week to face charges related to an alleged assault that took place in the town. During the court proceedings, McCallum claimed that he had only given a woman a light tap, insisting it was not a punch. However, the sheriff did not agree with this characterization of the incident.

McCallum, who resides at 71 Meadows Avenue in Campbeltown, was accused of physically harming a woman by repeatedly striking her in the body. The assault reportedly caused her to fall against a parked car, an event that took place on Longrow in Campbeltown on March 15, 2020. The court was shown photographs of the woman’s injuries, which included marks on her arm and facial bruising, evidence provided by the police to substantiate her claims.

The victim, a 21-year-old woman, recounted that she had been at a home party after a day of drinking with friends in a pub located in the town center. She explained that McCallum was not invited to the gathering and had simply wanted to join the group uninvited. According to her testimony, McCallum made unwanted advances towards her, but she was not interested in his attention.

Another woman, also 21 years old and part of the same group, testified that they were all somewhat intoxicated at the time. She recalled hearing the injured woman cry out and turning around to see what was happening. She described McCallum as persistently bothering the group, which led her to tell him to go home. The injured woman, who was visibly upset and injured, was examined by police officers who documented her wounds with photographs.

In his statement to the police after being taken into custody, McCallum denied physically punching the woman. Instead, he claimed that he had only given her a tap on the face and insisted that the incident was nothing more than a minor altercation among friends. Despite his account, the sheriff did not accept his version of events.

Sheriff Hughes ordered that a Restriction of Liberty Order Assessment and a Criminal Justice Work Report be prepared for further review, indicating that the case remains under consideration and that additional measures may be taken depending on the outcome of these reports.
