BILLY DOLPHIN FROM WHISTON SENTENCED AFTER RAPE IN PRESCOT AND DOVECOT

In August 2017, a disturbing case unfolded involving Billy Dolphin, a 20-year-old teaching assistant from Whiston, who was found guilty of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman. The incident took place after they met during a night out in Prescot, where both individuals had been socializing. Following their meeting, they exchanged contact details and engaged in text messaging, but the woman made it clear she was not interested in pursuing a sexual relationship. Despite her reservations, Dolphin persisted in his attempts to meet her, and they arranged to see each other again.

When they finally met the following week, the woman was hesitant and expressed her discomfort, reiterating her desire not to engage in sexual activity. Dolphin took her to his grandmother’s house in Dovecot, a suburb near Liverpool, where the situation quickly became tense. The woman felt uneasy about being alone with him, and her discomfort was evident. Despite her protests and her stating she was unwell, Dolphin ignored her pleas and continued to pursue her sexually.

According to court proceedings, Dolphin forcibly engaged in oral sex with the woman before raping her, actions that left her physically injured. The assault was eventually reported after the victim confided in a teacher at her school, prompting police investigation. During questioning, Dolphin claimed that their sexual encounter was consensual and that she had asked him to stop when she became upset. However, authorities uncovered text messages between the pair that painted a different picture. In these messages, Dolphin expressed remorse and begged her not to report the incident, even revealing his suicidal thoughts, saying, “Please don’t take it any further I’m literally begging ye now it does actually scare me, but I am actually sorry,” and “I’m literally s****ing myself that I don’t want to be here anymore. Im actually thinking of killing myself.”

Faced with overwhelming evidence, Dolphin admitted to two counts of rape prior to his trial. The victim, in her testimony, described her feelings of helplessness, stating, “I feel I will never escape and I just wish it was a nightmare.”

His defense argued that Dolphin had previously been a positive influence on children, but the prosecution questioned his motives and honesty, especially given his initial denial and the evidence of his texts. Judge Denis Watson, QC, addressed Dolphin’s plea, noting that he only admitted guilt when he realized he was in a hopeless legal position. The judge sentenced Dolphin to four years and nine months in a young offenders institution. Additionally, Dolphin is required to register as a sex offender and will be subject to an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim and prevent further contact.
